Breakthrough Science
Inspiring the students behind the next life-changing breakthrough
We worked with Pfizer to deliver their new STEM education programme, Breakthrough Science, designed to inspire students to connect with the power of science and see a career in STEM differently. Breakthrough Science has brought together the expertise of science teachers from the Academies Enterprise Trust, in collaboration with The Careers and Enterprise Company, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to ensure content complements curricula and is reflective of the life sciences industry so that students get a unique insight into the real-world impact of science in society.
Breakthrough Science launched in September 2023 with four curriculum-linked lesson packs and a suite of 10 ‘Science Stories’ videos showcasing the diversity of roles in the life sciences industry and highlighting the different routes individuals took to their careers.
The four teaching packs, which are aimed at students aged 11-14 and 14-16, cover key curriculum topics including acids and bases, infection and response, discovery and development of drugs, chemical analysis and quantitative chemistry to help bring the topics to life in a real-world context and highlight the role they play in our everyday lives.
